About David Lowe
For me, the journey to founding Lobo Lowe LLC began not in a classroom, but on the bandstand. In central Missouri, Rhythm and Blues masters mentored me as a young, self-taught musician. Through their mentorship, I developed a perspective on music and aesthetics that differs from the conservatory. This education—outside of the academy—instilled in me a lifelong mission to honor these traditions of all cultures as authentically as possible and to create a structured path for others to learn from them.
Today, Lobo Lowe LLC is defined by that same dedication to craft. Our mission is to strengthen communities and foster cross-cultural understanding through the soft power of music. We bring people together to learn, perform, and explore global traditions. We provide structured instruction programs for bass and ensemble playing, and we incubate research-driven performance projects that celebrate world music traditions and promote human dignity.
I believe that music is a lifelong discipline requiring a structured environment for mastery. My studio is designed for dedicated students of all ages—from beginners to advanced players preparing for auditions or professional performance.
Whether in the studio or with collaboration instructors, my pedagogical philosophy moves beyond "weekly lessons." I provide a holistic, long-term approach combining musicianship, harmony and analysis, technique, and the art of performance practice. My goal is to ensure every student learns not just how to play, but the aptitude to work across many genres—particularly Jazz, Art Music, and the diverse styles of the African Diaspora, as authentically as possible.
My performance work is an extension of my educational philosophy. I am a performer who believes that the best teachers are those who remain active students of the craft. By remaining active in the professional performance circuit, I bring current, real-world insights back to my students and institutional partners. Every service and workshop I design is a direct response to a need I have witnessed throughout my career.
I learn, perform, and teach myself and others. I write, perform, aspire, inspire, and collaborate across genres as a soloist, an ensemble player, and a writer.
